The NAIADES communication COM(2006)6 established the framework and defined the principles for an integrated inland waterway transport policy in the European Union, while the NAIADES action programme defined the actions necessary to implement the policy. The current action programme will end in 2013. In view of the implementation of the 2011 White Paper – Roadmap to a Single European Transport Area, there is a need to consider a follow-up to the current action programme in order to ensure a sustainable implementation of the policy framework.
The Commission is encouraging all interested parties to contribute their views on what policy measures are needed to address the future challenges of the inland waterway transport sector. With this questionnaire, the Commission invites interested stakeholders to share their views and opinions on a future policy to promote inland waterway transport in Europe.
