We’re energised and focused on following up the transformative UK-EU Transport ‘Reset’ event held in Westminster on November 11th, in partnership with Dft. This historic gathering of UK transport leaders and the DfT marked a pivotal moment in shaping bold priorities for a stronger UK-EU partnership for transport & trade. The future is ours to build—together!

P.S. can’t promise future videos will always be less than a minute, but it’s a good goal to aim for 😊

Darren Caplan, Chief Executive of the Railway Industry Association (RIA), the UK rail trade body which hosted the event, emphasised the transformative potential of the reset: “This UK-EU reset has significant potential to make a real difference.”

💂🏼‍♂️ Transport Leaders Gathered in Westminster to Drive UK-EU Reset and Forge New Transport & Trade Opportunities, 11 November

⚡ What an inspiring day! UKTiE, together with the Department for Transport (DfT) and Britain’s leading transport companies and organisations, came together to discuss critical trade, travel, tech, sustainability, and investment links with Europe. as we embrace a reset in our relationship with European partners.

💡 What’s next?

We’re working with DfT’s new two-way engagement to develop a joint action plan, which will outline next steps and include details for a follow-up video call early in the new year to keep the momentum going.

📈 We must reset our relationship with Brussels, says UK Chancellor, 14 November, London

In her Mansion House speech on November 14, 2024, Chancellor Rachel Reeves emphasised the importance of strengthening the United Kingdom’s relationship with the European Union. She acknowledged that while the UK will not rejoin the EU’s single market or customs union, there is a need to rebuild and enhance ties with European partners to boost trade and economic growth. Reeves highlighted that Brexit has presented structural challenges, particularly affecting trade and productivity, and underscored the necessity of reducing barriers between the UK and the EU to foster a more open and competitive economy.
