Dear Minister,
I am writing on behalf of UK Transport in Europe (UKTiE) regarding the publication of partnership papers by the Department for Exiting the European Union.
UKTiE is an association representing Britain’s leading transport companies and organisations, across all the modes. It was launched to facilitate constructive engagement between the UK transport representatives, the UK Government and the EU institutions. We seek to promote the best in UK transport, share best practice with our European partners and support the work of the EU institutions in completing the Single European Transport Area.
The transport sector is a major contributor to the UK economy, with its direct economic value estimated at £60 billion annually. The connectivity it provides underpins virtually every other sector as well as the lives of millions of people in the UK. As such it is vital that the impact of Brexit on all modes of transport is considered, and a position paper should reflect transport’s central role to the UK economy.
We request that the Department consider publishing a ’Future Partnership Paper’ for an industry that is critical to the economy, millions of livelihoods and connects businesses and communities across the UK and Europe. Please find enclosed a copy of our priorities and analysis of what may be at risk without a transition period.
I would very much welcome your views on the points we raise. Yours sincerely,
Mark Watts
Director, UK Transport in Europe (UKTiE)
