On the 7th September 2017, UKTiE will be meeting a delegation from Michel Barnier’s Task Force 50.
So far the importance of transport has been seriously underplayed in the Brexit negotiations.
The future economic success of Britain and Europe relies on us securing an effective agreement on transport between the UK, the EU27 and the European Parliament.
UK transport is deeply integrated into EU transport networks and markets, and is a major contributor to the success and competiveness of Europe’s economy. The connectivity it provides is vital to the functioning of virtually every other industry and also enhances the lives of millions of people throughout Europe.
Failure to reach an effective agreement in time, or to agree a transitional arrangement, will be deeply damaging, not just to the transport sector in the UK and on the Continent, but also undermine the economy and competiveness of the UK and the EU27.
We look forward to informing TF50’s deliberations, sharing potential solutions and contributing to securing an agreement which is mutually beneficial, and above all delivers the best possible Brexit for transport in the EU and UK.
